What is the QESI ?



The Quebec Education Savings Incentive (QESI) is a tax measure of the Quebec Government which was introduced on February 21st, 2007. It is a refundable tax credit which is paid directly into your RESP by Revenu Quebec.

The QESI represents 10% to 20% of the contributions made to your RESP since February 21st, 2007. Its rate varies according to your family income.

> Who is admissible?

All children 18 years or under can receive a tax credit if:
  • They are Quebec residents
  • They have a social insurance number
  • They are named as a beneficiary of an RESP
  • A sum of money is paid into their RESP
> How much can be received?

The Quebec Education Savings Incentive corresponds to 10% of the annual contributions which you have paid into your RESP, up to a maximum of $250* per child.

The rate of the QESI applicable to the first $500 of annual contributions to an RESP increases:
  • from 10% to 15% for the beneficiary whose annual family income in 2008 exceeds $37,500, but is less than or equal to $75,000**
  • to 20% for the beneficiary whose annual family income in 2008 is less than or equal to $37,500 **


You child receives a total QESI amount which can reach $3,600 *. This amount grows tax free!
