I hold a plan for each of my children. Can I apply for the mitigation measures?

OUR ANSWER

The mitigation measures plan is for clients who feel they are disadvantaged by the easing of the eligibility criteria for educational assistance payments (EAPs). It should be remembered that the easing of these criteria, which initially came into effect in January 2018, was confirmed in the fall of 2018 by a vote of subscribers.

To be eligible to submit a request for your file, you must meet both the following conditions:

  • You opened a group plan with Universitas Financial (REFLEX or UNIVERSITAS) before October 5, 2017.
  • You had not withdrawn all three educational assistance payments (EAPs) available in the RESP as at December 31, 2017, i.e. the day before the relaxed criteria came into force.

You only need to register once as a subscriber, regardless of the number of beneficiaries for whom you hold RESPs. You have until April 30, 2019 to register by visiting universitas-attenuation.collectiva.ca/. After which, the files will be promptly evaluated.
