What’s the maximum I can contribute to my child’s RESP?

Question from: Josiane, Victoriaville*

OUR ANSWER

In accordance with the Income Tax Act (Canada), the maximum lifetime RESP contribution limit per beneficiary is $50,000 for all plans combined from any RESP provider.

To receive the maximum in government grants, it is recommended to spread contributions over several years. Parents who have the chance to maximize education savings grants should know that the lifetime limit for the Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) is $7,200 per beneficiary, and $3,600 for the Quebec Education Savings Incentive (QESI).1
